While you wait for the BIG BREAK do this.

We’ve all been there before. That point when we are waiting for something. A big financial break, that big client, a relationship, marriage, success, the recognition. Whatever it is! The point is, some of us are waiting for something to happen. Something that will change our lives forever.

I have been there before. Not even that. I am at that stage. To me this is the transition stage. That point where there is a major shift in my life. The point where I am moving from one stage in life to another. Is the transition easy? Hell no!!! It is not. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t experiencing such transition but when I get to have thoughts like that, I forbid myself from thinking that way. The transition is necessary.

The wait is necessary.

But what do you do in your waiting period?

There is a popular quote by Ann Voskman that I have been seeing on Social Media. It says, when you are waiting on God do what waiters do, serve. I find this quote to be true. When you are waiting on God, that big break, success or whatever you are waiting for, you have to serve humanity. It doesn’t matter the capacity you serve in, be it in Church or in a small community, the main point here is, you have to get involved in making humanity move forward.

The Universe isn’t sleeping. Karma is real. when you do something good for the universe, it does everything within it’s power to pay you back in a million folds. And the best good you can do for humanity is to serve her. Find a cause that you believe in and attach yourself to it. Serve that cause with your gifts, talents or money. Just do something valuable that will move the cause forward.

Serving is not enough.

If you think just serving will do the work then you have to think again. Serving is not enough. You can be a Mother Teresa or what have you and serve humanity with your whole heart, but that doesn’t mean you will be ready for the big break when it comes. As you serve, you have to build capacity that will accommodate what you are waiting for. Truth be told. One of the major reasons why you haven’t gotten what you want in life is because you have not built and developed the capacity that can accommodate it. When you pray to God to pour more wine in your cup, he will. But the amount of wine you get is dependent on the size of your cup. The amount of blessing you get depends on your current capacity. It’s not that God don’t want to give you more. The truth is, if God gives you more you might lose it all and God loves you so much to put you in that position. So my friend, you have to increase your capacity.

When you pray to God to pour more wine in your cup, he will. But the amount of wine you get is dependent on the size of your cup. The amount of blessing you get depends on the your current capacity.

I am sure right now you must be asking, how do I increase my capacity? If you want to experience something different, you have to do something different. You have to do something you are not used to. And something most people are not used to in my generation is personal development. I see a lot of youths walking around with the best of phones and material possessions that becomes obsolete in few years but when you ask them what personal development book are they currently reading, they tell you “reading is not my thing” or, “I am done with school so I don’t see any other reason to read”. My dear, I pity you because you will suffer. You think Dangote became Dangote by being ignorant or you think Bill Gates became Bill Gates by ignoring personal development? Are my words harsh? Hell yes!! I want this to get to the core of your heart so you can know that it is stupid for you to ignore what can open the doors of your destiny. When you close your mind to knowledge you close the doors of your destiny. If you check on my Twitter Profile, you will realize that the pinned tweet says “When you ignore knowledge you are doomed. Ignorance is the prisoner of destiny” That tweet has been there since the 22nd of November 2015. When you say that reading is not your thing then you are equally saying that success is not your thing. Don’t be stupid. Go pick up a book and read. I advise you to start with “As a Man thinketh by James Allen”. The book is free. Click here to download it.

Moreover, as much as I recommend that you read, I can’t deny the fact that reading is not the only form of personal development. The whole purpose of personal development is to learn and please don’t be unfortunate and say that you want to learn from experience. Learning from experience is expensive and risky because you might not survive that experience and it might destroy your life forever. So instead of learning from your own personal experience, look for other people’s experience and learn from it. Get mentors that will show you the way. People document their whole life in books. Read those books. Listen to audio books too if you are an auditory learner, listen to podcasts, watch videos on YouTube, go for personal development training, events, etc. The point is, do something that will expand your mind!!!

In all you do, DON’T BE BROKE!!!

When you are waiting for that big break, please avoid being broke. I know it’s not easy but by all means don’t be broke. A friend of mine once said that being broke is your inability to think of ways to give value to the society. I strongly agree with him. Money is an exchange of value. You have something that is valuable to me, and I give you my money for it. It is that simple. You have to think of different ways to become valuable to the people around you. Learning a profitable skill is one of the best ways to do this. For instance, I am a professional copywriter and I have written sales copies for companies in different fields. I have worked with companies in the Tech Space, Personal Development space, health practitioners, etc. The only reason why my service is needed by these organisations is because it is valuable to them and also, copy writing is a profitable skill to learn. If you learn copy writing you can sell anything to anyone. You can sell oxygen to a human that is breathing properly. I am not saying learning copy writing will end your poverty. Neither am I saying that you should even learn it. What I am saying is that you should develop profitable skills that are needed in the market place. Skills that have a high market demand and also skills that have a large market size. Don’t forget. What you should be looking out for is Market demand and also market size. I know the love of money is the root of all evil. That doesn’t make poverty sexy. It doesn’t matter if you get money by having a job or running a business or just freelancing. Just do whatever within your power that is moral and legal not to be broke.

Talking about skills, there are courses on Udemy that you can take for $9.99 cheap. Apparently you can learn any skill you want to learn on Udemy and even get a certificate of completion. Pick a skill you want to learn, go find it on Udemy and commit to learning this skill. As much as you learn that skill, market the hell out of your expertise and MAKE MONEY FROM WHAT YOU LEARN!

You might just be the weapon formed against yourself.

No weapon formed against you shall prosper ~ Isaih 54:17

You see that Bible verse above? I totally agree with it. No weapon fashioned against you shall prosper, yes! but when you are the weapon fashioned against yourself you will eventually prosper. Sometimes you are your own problem. You are the reason you are not just successful. You have all the skills, you have read all the books in the world, you have attended all the personal development program there is to attend but still, you are broke, not known and still in the “waiting phase”. You are your problem my friend, you know so much but do so little. You consume so much but produce so little. You have ideas, skills and everything you need to succeed but it’s as though every morning you dine and wine with procrastination. Don’t you know that procrastination postpones your success? Until you start taking action and get into the production segment, you will still be in the waiting phase till you die.

Procrastination postpones your success

Walk with wise people and become wise; befriend fools and get in trouble ~ Proverbs 13:20 CEB

I remember when a good and senior friend of mine that I respect so much, Efe Otofia, called me to check up on me and how I was doing. Truth be told, I wasn’t fine. I was broke, squatting with someone in a new city I , I had lost all my money in a Ponzi scheme that came in as a form of investment. I made this huge loss because I didn’t use my brain to handle my money but my emotions (I will write about this later). So, I poured all my emotions on Efe and I was really sober. He comforted and reminded me of how valuable and phenomenal I am. He told me that great people go through this phase and it’s nothing new in the journey of success. But he said one thing that still rings in my head till today. He said, “Milton, Fight the resistance”. This has been the word playing in my head as I am now building all over again from the ground up. I have to fight the resistance of giving up, the resistance of regretting, the resistance of living a normal life like everybody else and giving in to the temporary situation. I have to fight the resistance and you have to fight it too.

Why am I sharing this with you?

In your waiting period, you have to surround yourself with people that fan your flames. People that will make you stronger. Friends that won’t judge your situation but instead celebrate and encourage you. You need those kind of people in your life. It’s no more news that you are the average of the 5 people you spend your time with. In fact, you need to know that you are not just the average of the 5 people you spend your time with but the best of them. You want to be the best of your peers don’t you? You need to get yourself into circles that will motivate you to achieve your goals. You need to do this for yourself. You owe that to your future and your kids. The rich get richer because they share opportunities among themselves. That’s what they do to make their friendship grow stronger. Sometimes the reason we haven’t gotten our big break is because we haven’t connected with the person that will lead us to our blessing. Expose yourself and connect with new people everyday. See how you can be valuable to the people that you get to connect with. Always work towards depositing some goodwill into other people’s emotional bank account. It will pay at the long run.

Invest in people’s emotional bank account. The return of investment will do your future good.

In summary, you should, have it in mind that the vision is for an appointed time. Though it may delay, it will come eventually. The Bible puts it this way. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry ~ Habakkuk 2:3.

But while you wait…

  • Serve humanity.
  • Develop capacity.
  • Engage in Personal development.
  • Get a hustle and don’t be broke.
  • Don’t be your own problem
  • Surround yourself with valuable friends.

Your time is coming.. Fight the resistance
